To decrease the risk of personal
injury, disconnect negative (-) bat-
tery cable before beginning starter/
generator removal.
1.
Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2.
Remove the wires connected to the starter/genera-
tor.
3.
Loosen the jam nut (11) and the adjusting nut (12)
securing the starter/generator adjuster until the
starter/generator belt can be removed from the drive
clutch.
4.
Remove the starter/generator pivot bolts (13) and lift
the starter/generator from the vehicle (Ref. Fig. 12).
5.
Install the starter/generator pivot bolts (13) and hard-
ware loosely in place.
6.
Install the belt. Tighten a new starter/generator belt
per STARTER/GENERATOR BELT TENSION.
7.
Tighten the jam nut (12), pivot bolts (13) and nuts
(14) to the torque value specified below.
8.
Install the wires as shown below and tighten the ter-
minals firmly into place.
9.
Reconnect the battery.

COOLING SYSTEM CLEANING
The cooling system should be cleaned at least once a
year, or more often under adverse conditions. Cleaning
will assure an adequate supply of air to the cooling fins.
Compressed air may be used for routine cooling system
maintenance (Ref. Fig. 15).
Operation in wet or damp weather or over freshly cut
grass may result in a variety of debris accumulating and
adhering to the internal shroud and fins of the cooling sys-
tem.
