the engine.
Fig. 6 Remove Oil Filter
7.
Clean the area around the oil filter.
8.
Place the oil drain pan under the filter area.
9.
Remove the oil filter (4) from the engine and allow
the oil to drain into the oil drain pan (Ref. Fig. 6).
10. The o-ring (5) may have remained on the engine (6)
or filter (7) (Ref. Fig. 7). If the o-ring (5) is on the
engine surface (6), remove it and discard with the fil-
ter (7).
Fig. 7 Inspect Oil Filter
11. Inspect the new oil filter for any defects. Apply
engine oil to the oil filter o-ring (5).
12. Install the oil filter onto the engine until the seal con-
tacts the mounting surface of the engine. Turn the fil-
ter 2/3 to 3/4 rotation by hand.
13. Pour the specified type and amount of oil into the oil
filler opening.
14. Oil capacity is 1 1/3 quarts (1.3 liters). Add slightly
less than 1 1/3 quarts (1.3 liters) to allow for possible
residual oil left in engine (Ref. Fig. 8). The oil must
be high quality oil that meets or exceeds API SF, SG,
CC standards.
15. Check the oil level on the dipstick. Oil should be
slightly below the H mark to allow for oil expansion. If
necessary, continue to add oil slowly and allow time
for the oil to flow down into the engine.
16. Check the oil level on the dipstick.
Do not overfill
.
Do not overfill engine. Too much oil
may cause smoking or allow oil to
enter the air filter enclosure.
Fig. 8 Add Engine Oil
NOTICE: Both the oil dipstick and the fill cap must
be in place before operating the engine. Failure to
install the dipstick and fill cap will result in oil being
discharged into the engine compartment.
17. Start the vehicle. Allow the engine to run for a few
minutes to fill up the oil filter.
18. Stop the vehicle on a level surface.
19. Set the park brake and remove the key.
20. Check for oil leaks at the drain plug and oil filter.
Tighten the drain plug or oil filter if a leak is found.
21. Check the oil level on the dipstick. Add oil if neces-
sary.
Oil increases in volume when warm. The H mark (full) on
the dipstick is calibrated for an engine at operating tem-
perature. When the engine is cold, the oil will be below
the full mark. The engine can be operated safely as long
as the oil is within the safe operating range as indicated
on the dipstick.
Do not operate vehicle if the oil level is
below the safe area indicated on the dipstick.
