Resolving Resource Conflicts
Normally, when you add a PCI expansion board, the system detects this
change as soon as you power up the server. The system ROM reads the PCI
board identifier and compares it with the current configuration information
stored in nonvolatile memory. The system ROM automatically configures your
PCI boards and no further work is required
However, in cases when the system requires you to choose configuration
options, a Power-On Self-Test (POST) message directs you to run the System
Configuration Utility to change your automatic default settings. When you run
System Configuration Utilities, the system reads the .CFG files to identify
resource conflicts..
When the system identifies a conflict, it rechecks all the expansion board
specifications to determine if it can change the settings for any existing board
and automatically resolve the conflict between the two boards. If conflicts
cannot be resolved automatically, System Configuration Utility directs you
through a manual troubleshooting process.
Launching the SmartStart CD
For detailed instructions on how to use the SmartStart CD, refer to the Server
Setup and Management pack included in the shipping box with your server.
With the server running, install the SmartStart CD:

Insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive, handling the CD from its edges
rather than on the flat surfaces.
2.
The CD automatically launches the setup program and begins installing
system utilities. The activity indicator on the front of the CD-ROM
drive turns green.
When the system utilities have been installed, the main menu display on your
system monitor is displayed. Select either the ROMPaq or System
Configuration Utility.
Reapplying ROMPaq
In Compaq ProLiant DL580 servers, the system ROM is automatically
configured after any memory or processor changes. To re-apply your default
system ROM using ROMPaq, open the SmartStart folder on the
SmartStart CD, select ROMPaq from the launch menu, and follow the
