SP8018 MACHINE MAINTENANCE
RADIATOR SCREEN & FAN
•
Inspect the radiator (
Daily
). Remove any
dirt, insects, leaves, oil, or other debris that
can clog the radiator screen and fins. If
using pressurized air, blow from the
backside of the radiator to clean screen and
fins. For further cleaning instructions refer
to the engine owner’s manual.
•
Inspect for damaged or bent fins, fan blades,
and for corrosion. Inspect the welds,
mounting brackets, connections, clamps, air
hoses, and seals for damage or breakage.
Repair or replace any damaged parts.
COOLANT SYSTEM
•
Check the coolant level (
Daily
). Engine
must be off and all parts are cool before
attempting to check coolant level. Remove
the coolant filler cap slowly to relieve any
built-up pressure.
•
When adding coolant to the tank, leave at
least 1/2" between the coolant and the
bottom of the filler pipe. Anti-freeze ratio to
water must be 50/50, never use 100% anti-
freeze.
•
Clean the coolant filler cap and check the
caps’ gaskets for damage. Replace the cap
if the gaskets are damaged.
•
Inspect the coolant system for leaks. (For
other service on the coolant system refer to
the engine owner’s manual.)
•
Be sure to replace the filler cap before
starting the engine.
NOTE:
John Deere engines require a special
coolant additive. Read your engine owner’s
manual for additional coolant information
ENGINE OIL
•
Check engine oil at dipstick (
Daily
). Take
reading with engine
sitting level
. Add
recommended oil if needed. Also change oil
and filter as required by manufacturer.
Pressurized System. Hot coolant can
cause serious burns. Stop engine and wait
until coolant system components are cool.
Then loosen the cooling system pressure
cap slowly until pressure is relieved.
Always wear eye protection!
