9 - Idler Axle And Tension Arm Removal And Installation

Idler Axle Removal

STEP  1

Follow Steps 1 through 13 of the Front and Rear Idler
Wheel Seal and Bearing Removal and Installation
section of this manual to remove the inner and outer
idler wheels on the axle to be removed.

NOTE:

Complete axle assemblies are available from .

It is not necessary to remove the hubs and bearings
for Steps 2 and 18 if replacing with a complete axle
assembly or tension arm removal. Steps 2, 3, 4, 16, 17
and 18 are for replacing the collar ring O-ring seals.

Follow Steps 1 through 7 of the Tension Cylinder
Removal And Installation section of this manual if the
tension arm is to be removed.

STEP  2

Remove the nuts (1), washers (2) and U-bolts (3)
from the idler axle. Remove the idler axle from the
undercarriage.

NOTE:

The procedure in Steps 2, 3 and 4 is the same

for both idler axles. The tension idler axle is shown.

STEP  3

Use a press to remove the axle from each collar ring
(1).

IMPORTANT:

Support the back side (2) of the collar

rings (1) evenly and close to the axle when pressing
the axle from the rings.
