Ethernet
Local Area Network (LAN) compatible with the ISO
802-3 ANSI/IEEE 802.3 standards and the Ethernet
standards for Carrier Sense Multiple Access with
Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) local area networks
(LANs).
Fast Ethernet
A 100 Mb/s extension to Ethernet, also referred to as
100BaseT. Fast Ethernet uses ISO 802-3 ANSI/IEEE
Standard 802.3, but implements the protocol at 100
Mb/s. MAC frame formats and sizes are identical to
those used by 10 Mb/s Ethernet.
Hot-swappable
The removal or insertion of a module into the
DIGITAL MultiSwitch 900 without disrupting power
to the unit or affecting the connectivity to other
modules in the stack or chassis.
Do not simultaneously hot-swap more than one
module. Simultaneously inserting or removing more
than one module can cause problems with the
operation of other installed modules.
Internet Protocol (IP)
Address
The format of an IP address is the standard 4-octet
dotted decimal notation, where each octet of the
address is represented as a decimal value, separated
by a decimal point (.). For example, 16.20.54.156
Media Access Control
(MAC) Address
The following format represents a Media Access
Control (MAC) address:
08-00-2B-A3-00-00
