D.7 VTG NMEA Sentence
GPS Velocity, Track made good and Ground speed Data
The VTG sentence identifies the course over ground (COG) and the speed over ground
(SOG).
Example:
$GPVTG,026.6,T,,M,0.01,N,0.02,K,D*61
FIELD Description
1 Course over Ground (COG), in degrees from True North
2 Letter ‘T” to indicate course is relative to True North
3 Course over Ground (COG), in degrees from Magnetic North – ‘null’
value
4 Letter ‘M’ to indicate course is relative to Magnetic North
5 Speed over Ground (SOG) in nautical miles per hour (knots)
6 Letter ‘N’ to indicate that the speed over ground is in knots
7 Speed over Ground (SOG) in kilometers per hour (km/hr)
8 Letter ‘K’ to indicate that the speed over ground is in km/hr
9 Letter ‘D’ to indicate a differential corrected solution is in use
10 Check Sum (hexadecimal representation) followed by CRLF
terminator pair
