performing the following procedures, read the “Safety Notices” on page vii.
Removing the Media Bay Chassis
To remove the media bay chassis, do the following:
1. Stop the system as described in “Stopping the System” on page 9.
2. Place the system into the service position as described in “Placing the 296/C3 into the Service
Position” on page 6 or “Placing the 296/E3 into the Service and Operating Position” on page 7.
3. Disconnect the power source from the system.
Note: This system may be equipped with a second power supply. Before continuing with this
procedure, ensure that the power source to the system has been completely disconnected.
4. Remove the front bezel as described in “Bezels” on page 15.
5. Press the media bay chassis latches, and pull the bay chassis out of the system chassis.
Note: If there is a SCSI media device installed in the SCSI media-device bay, a sound cable might be
connected to the rear of SCSI media device. Look for the cable as you remove the media bay
from the system chassis. If the cable is present, unplug it from the rear of the SCSI media
device. For more information, see “Media Devices” on page 46.
6. If you are servicing a 296/E3, unplug the operator panel cable from the media bay chassis as you
remove the media bay chassis from the system chassis. If you are servicing a 296/C3, the operator
panel will remain in the media bay chassis as it is being removed.
