
Chapter 1. Overview
The 296/C3 and 296/E3are designed to allow customers to remove, replace and install certain options and
parts.
If you are installing an optional part in your system, use the installation procedure for the part in Chapter 2,
“Removal, Replacement, and Installation Procedures”, on page 3.
If the system contains a part that is damaged, a part that fails to operate correctly, or the system needs
service, perform the following steps:
Step 1. Check the Operator Panel
When a failing part is detected in your system, the amber-colored attention LED on the operator panel is
turned on solid (not blinking). A failing part might also generate an error code. If an error code is
generated, it is shown on the operator panel display.

Step 2. Record Needed Information
Record the following information:
v
Machine type and model
v
System serial number
v
Any error codes that appear in the operator panel display or console
v
Any LEDs lit on the operator panel
Step 3. Report the Problem
Call your service organization. The service organization provides you with information about how to:
v
Identify the part in your system that is damaged or failing to operate correctly
v
Determine if a damaged or failing part can be replaced by the customer
v
Have a replacement part shipped to your location
v
Complete the repair when a part is replaced or installed in your system
