Depth Control of Shanks
A remote depth control is included in the hydraulic circuit to limit the depth of the shanks when the unit
is lowered into the ground, see Figure 5. This depth control is actuated by a striker plate which will
push in the poppet valve as the machine is lowered thereby changing the working depth of the shanks.
Turn the adjust handle at the front of the machine. Clockwise rotation will increase the operating depth
of the Landcommander; counterclockwise rotation will decrease the operating depth.
Each turn of the
adjust handle changes operating depth by approximately 1/2”.
It is best to make depth adjust-
ments with the machine raiser.
CAUTION: Escaping hydraulic fluid under pressure can have sufficient force to
penetrate the skin, causing serious personal injury. Relieve pressure in
hydraulic lines before uncoupling hydraulic hoses from tractor. On most
tractors this can be done by operating valves after engine is stopped. Before
applying pressure to the system, be sure all connections are tight and that
lines and hoses are not damaged.
Hydraulic fluid escaping from a very small hole can be almost invisible. Use a piece of
cardboard or a piece of wood, rather than hands, to search for suspected leaks.
If injured by escaping fluid, see a doctor at once. Serious infection or reaction can develop
if proper medical treatment is not administered immediately.
