Important notices on use
The module communicates via an EMS 2 interface with other EMS 2-
enabled BUS nodes.
• When using an alternative heat source, each heating circuit must be
equipped with a mixer. If only one heating circuit exists, an internal
temperature control can be used instead of the mixer.
• If the alternative heat source only heats the DHW, and a conventional
heat source heats the heating water, the conventional heat source
cannot be connected to the terminal OEV of the ME 200.
• In addition to the alternative heat source, only use gas or oil-fired heat
sources in a system. Important: no heat pumps with BUS interface
EMS 2 allowed; no district heating systems allowed.
• The installation room must be appropriate for the IP rating stated in
the technical data of the module.
• If a DHW cylinder is connected:
– Thermal disinfection cannot be guaranteed with stand-alone
alternative heat sources.
– The conventional heat source controls the DHW, including
thermal disinfection, directly.
– Thermal disinfection may have to be monitored manually.
Observe the heat source instructions.
• If the alternative heat source is charging the DHW cylinder and the
ME 200 is actively controlling the alternative heat source, (see
CW 400/CW 800
DHW settings

and

), the set temperature should as far as
possible match the set flow temperature of the alternative heat
source when charging the DHW cylinder.
• If external DHW is installed downstream of the low loss header, care
must be taken to ensure that the

Function definition
The module allows an alternative heat source with water routing to be
connected to a EMS 2 control system.
Cylinder charging/discharging:
the availability of and demand for heat
in the cylinder is measured via two cylinder temperature sensors. By
controlling valves and pumps accordingly, the module ensures that heat
energy demand is met by charging and discharging the cylinder. If
required, the module also controls a mixer with temperature sensor in
the system flow.
Return temperature increase:
the module controls the pump and valve
via the flow temperature and, if applicable, the return/flue gas
temperature at the alternative heat source in order to maintain a
minimum return temperature at the alternative heat source.
Control of active alternative heat source:
the module can switch
electrically activatable alternative heat sources (e.g. pellet stove with
water routing) on/off directly depending on the heat energy demand, or
modulate these if possible.
Blocking/releasing:
if there is sufficient heat in the buffer cylinder, the
conventional heat source is blocked and bypassed via a bypass valve. If
the alternative heat source cannot supply enough heat to the buffer
cylinder, the conventional heat source is released. When using a heat
source with EMS 2 electronics (e.g. MX25 from V1.44), the interlock
can be applied for the DHW and heating separately.
Heating circuit pump for heating circuit 1:
the module can switch the
pump of the first heating circuit in a system with a stand-alone alternative
heat source on or off, depending on the heat energy demand.
