18.2 Bosch Geothermal Water-to-Air Heat
Pump and Tankless Water Heating
Integrated System
The system depicted (Fig. 150) is a Bosch water-to-air
geothermal heat pump equipped with a Heat Recovery
Package (HRP) option from the factory (used for domestic
hot water production). It is integrated with a Bosch
Tankless Water Heater.
When waste heat is not available or is not enough to
provide all of the domestic need, the Bosch Tankless water
heater provides the necessary heat. This system is ideal for
most climates which require cooling.
It allows for three operating modes:
1. 100 % of the domestic hot water production via the
Heat Recovery Package
2. Partial energy provided by the Heat Recovery
Package and additional energy provided by the
modululating Tankless Water Heater
3. 100% domestic energy provided by the high-output
Bosch Tankless Water Heater

18.2.1 Bosch W2A (with Optional HRP) and Tankless
Water Heater Sequence of Operation:
Waste heat is recovered during the cooling months via
the Bosch water-to-air geothermal heat pump equipped
with the optional HRP. Waste heat is collected and stored
in an appropriately sized Bosch WST storage tank. When
domestic hot water is called for in the home, the water
stored in the WST tank passes thru a series of valves. If the
hot water stored in the tank is above the required delivery
temperature to the xtures, the water is diverted around
the Bosch Tankless Water Heater. If the temperature of the
stored hot water does not meet the necessary domestic
temperature the ow of hot water is diverted thru the
Bosch Tankless Water Heater. The ow activated Bosch
Tankless Water Heater modulates to the correct ring rate
based on inlet temperature, current ow rate and target
supply temperature requirement.
