Pump and Solar Thermal Water Heating
Integrated System
“Solar-Geo Assist” Option
The system depicted (Fig. 149) is a Bosch solar-assisted
water-to-air geothermal heat pump system. This system is
ideal for northern heating dominated markets.
It allows for two operating modes:
1. Domestic hot water production via an immersed
heat exchanger in the DHW tank
2. Solar-ground loop assist during the heating season.

18.1.1 Solar Thermal Sequence of Operation:
When the switch-on temperature difference between the
collector array and the solar DHW tank is reached, the
solar circulator is switched and the diverter valve (SBU
module) routes the heat transfer uid through the solar
tanks heat exchanger.
Once the DHW tank reaches its upper limit and solar
energy is still available, the diverter valve then routes the
solar heat transfer uid through a brazed at plate heat
exchanger and pre-heats the ground loop heat transfer
uid before it enters the geothermal heat pump. When
the heat pump is in cooling mode, the diverter valve
directs the heat transfer uid back to the solar DHW tank,
isolating solar from the ground loop.
