Boreal Laser Inc.

           GasFinder2 Operation Manual — Data I/O

         July 17th 2017

The serial data from the

GasFinder2

 can be viewed using a

computer that has a serial port. Boreal Laser Inc. has developed
the

GasViewOP

program to view and log the data. This program

is described fully in the

GasViewOP

manual.

Alternatively, any computer with a Hyperterminal program can
be used to download the data. HyperTerminal is a standard
accessory in Windows 9X and Windows NT & XP. Windows 7
requires a Hyperterminal emulator program to be downloaded.

HyperTerminal

Choose

Program Files

,

Accessories

,

Communications, Hyperterminal.

Choose a

name

 and an

icon

, and

click

OK

.

In the

Connect to

 display, bypass the

phone connections and under

Connect Using

, scroll down to the port

being used. Click

OK

.

In the

Port Settings

 display, change the

bits per second

 (baud rate) to

the correct value, typically

9600.

Also select

data bits,

no

 parity, and

1

 stop bit.

Flow control

 should be set to

none

. Click

OK.

If the computer is correctly connected to the GasFinderMC, the data
should now be appearing on the screen.

To save the data to a fi le, on the Upper Toolbar click on

Transfer

 and

Capture Text

.

Designate a fi le in the

Capture Text

 window, or use the

Browse

 option

to choose one, and the data can be recorded to a fi le in a specifi c
location.

Clicking

Start

will activate the recording procedure and on the lower

toolbar the word

Capture

 will be highlighted.

To stop recording the data, in the upper Tool Bar click on

Transfer

,

Capture Text,

 and

Stop

.

Note that some versions of Windows may have a different path for accessing
HyperTerminal.
The fi le is in Unix format and has a L/F and C/R end of line character string, not C/R and L/F.
It can be loaded into Excel, but each line will be separated by a space. This can be removed
with a Data Sort routine or a Macro.
