RESP
8.1 Overview
Thoracic electrical bio impedance is a method used for measuring the respiration. When the
patient is breathing, the thoracic impedance between two ECG electrodes changes due to
thoracic activity. The monitor generates a respiratory wave on the screen by measuring the
changing impedance value. The monitor calculates the respiration rate (RR) according to the
wave cycle.
8.2 Safety information
NOTE
Respiration monitoring does not apply to patient with large range of activities, as
this may lead to false alarm.
WARNING
Do not use anti-electric knife ECG cable for respiration monitoring.
Respiration measurement cannot identify the apnea because it will alarm if the
next respiration is not detected in the predetermined period after last
respiration, and therefore it cannot be used for diagnostic purpose.
