6.3 Commercial vehicle wheel attachment
Risk of crushing
There is a danger of crushing fingers and
other parts of the body on fitting and remo-
val.
¶
Wear safety shoes and protective gloves.
¶
Heavy wheels should always be handled by
two people.
¶
Do not reach between the wheel and shaft.
Incorrect or inaccurate measurement results
Balancing accuracy and thus vehicle handling
will be impaired by incorrect or poor attach-
ment of the wheel.
¶
Use the correct flange.
¶
Use the specified accessories
(cone, spacer rings).
¶
The rim must make precise contact with the
flange. Use a wire brush to remove any dirt
1. Switch on the MT 788 at the on/off switch.
2. Use the appropriate commercial vehicle flange.

3. Move the wheel lift slide fully to the right.
4. Place a commercial vehicle wheel on the wheel lift
slide.
5.
Raise the commercial vehicle wheel with the wheel
lift (left pedal) until the axis of the wheel is on a
level with the flange axis.

6. Move the wheel lift slide to the left until the com-
mercial vehicle wheel makes contact with the flange.
7. Select a suitable 5-arm spider (or corresponding
tool) with matching clamping bolts.

8. Secure the wheel with the clamping nut. Turn the
clamping nut clockwise until the wheel is loosely
clamped.
9. Lower the wheel lift slide (right pedal).
10. Turn the clamping nut clockwise until the wheel is
firmly clamped.

6.4 Removing the commercial vehicle
wheel
1.
Position the wheel lift slide beneath the wheel.
2. Turn the clamping nut counter-clockwise and unfas-
ten the wheel.
3. Remove the clamping nut.
4. Remove the 5-arm spider.
5.
Move the wheel lift slide and wheel horizontally until
the wheel is on the right of the shaft.
6. Lower the wheel lift slide.
7. Remove the wheel.
