Maintenance
10.5.6 Cleaning the flame arresters
All supply and drain lines to and from non-failsafe pipeline systems
in the Ex d box are equipped with flame arresters (see page 62).
The box provides explosion pressure for the measuring unit by the
pressure-resistant enclosure ignition protection Ex d (see page 29)
only in combination with the flame arresters. Explosion group IIC is
determined by the flame arresters used.
Correct function of the flame arresters requires regular inspection
and cleaning. The required intervals depend to a large extent on
the liquids and gases flowing through the flame arresters. In
particular the flame arresters (7 and 10 in Figure 4.2 on page 62)
through which the petrochemical product flows need to be cleaned
on a regular basis. In case of “clean” products, e.g. gasoline,
annual cleaning is normally sufficient. Product impurities may make
significantly short maintenance intervals necessary.
Hot operating materials
WARNING
Danger of burns due to hot operating materials
Operating materials can reach high temperatures
during operation and cause burns upon contact.
For this reason:
– Before handling operating materials, check
whether they are hot. Allow them to cool down
for at least 25 minutes if necessary.
Hot surfaces
WARNING
Danger of burns due to hot surfaces
Contact with hot components can cause burns.
For this reason:
– Always wear protective clothing and gloves
during all work in the vicinity of hot components.
– Check that all components have cooled to
ambient temperature before beginning any work.
