SAFETY SUMMARY
(continued...)
REDUCE THE RISK OF CHAIN SHOT:
Ÿ
Never downgrade from the laminated
polycarbonate safety glass used on your BARKO
Harvester or Processor.
Ÿ
Never use the attachment where the saw blade or
chain are directly inline with the cab.
Ÿ
Follow the safety guidelines, operation and
maintenance procedures outlined in the attachment
manufacturer’s manual supplied with your BARKO
machine.
Ÿ
Ensure the chain or blade speed does not exceed
the manufacturer’s rating.
Ÿ
Do not modify safety guards.
Ÿ
Inspect for worn sprockets and cutting teeth.
Ÿ
Ensure proper lubrication and keep saw teeth
sharp.
Ÿ
Make certain bystanders are 500’ away when
attachment is running.
CHAIN SHOT:
Chain shot is the high velocity separation
and ejection of a piece or pieces of saw chain from the
end of a broken loop of saw chain in mechanized timber
harvesting. Chain shot typically originates near the drive
end of the cutting system, but can also originate from the
guide bar tip area. In either case, it poses the same risk of
serious injury or death to the machine operator, ground
personnel and bystanders.
Never approach power lines with any part of the
machine.
Current in a high voltage line may arc some
distance to jump from the wire to a nearby "ground".
KEEP WELL CLEAR!
Harvester and Feller-Buncher blades will cause death
or severe injury.
Do not start up these attachments until
all personnel are
500 feet away
. Shut down attachment
when not in use.
Allow only the operator on the machine. Keep riders
off.
Riders on machine are subject to death or injury from
being struck by foreign objects and being thrown from
machine. Riders also obstruct the operator's view,
resulting in machine being operated in an unsafe manner.
Never use a boom attachment for a work platform or
personnel carrier.
