Calibrating the Linear Position Transmitter BTL7
BTL7 Set up and Calibration
This is a quick guide to the set up and calibration of the Balluff BTL7 Position sensor. The full manufactures
instructions should be read and followed in their entirety. (Balluff.com).
Follow all safety precautions of the equipment manufacturer Balluff in the BTL7 Manual. Do not attempt to
perform installation or calibration in a Hazardous Area. Do not open housing in an explosive atmosphere.
Use caution when opening BTL7, as electrical circuits will be energized. Electrical circuits must remain
energized for calibration, except as noted herein.
When starting up valve may move. Keep clear of hazardous areas.
All work should be done only by trained qualified personnel.
Note: Remove power when accessing the dip switches.
The BTL7 is a magnetostrictive position measuring instruments with an analog interface. It consists of a
Stainless-Steel Housing that contains the electronics module and the terminal connections. The housing has
a 1⁄2”-14 NPT conduit connection and an external ground screw and a cover retaining screw. A long wave
-
guide tube extends over the measurement range and the magnet slides over this tube sending signals to the
electronics to determine the position.
The wiring connections are done by bringing the power and loop wires through the conduit connection and up
to the terminal board. See Figure below.
