DIRECTIONS FOR FILLING THE PUMP – Use Aseptic Technique
1. Remove the
fi
ll port cap and close clamp on the tubing.
2. The Easypump RA with PCA and Select-A-Flow can be
fi
lled with a syringe or similar device.
Remove all air from the
fi
lling device.
3. Attach the
fi
ll port to the
fi
lled syringe and invert pump (refer to Figure 2 on Page 2 for proper
technique). Firmly grasp the syringe with both hands and push down on the plunger continuously
until the volume is dispensed. Do not push down on the pump while
fi
lling as the syringe tip may
break. Repeat as necessary.
4. Remove
fi
lling device from the
fi
ll port and securely replace the
fi
ll port cap.
5. Label with the appropriate pharmaceutical and patient information. Labels may be wrapped
around the Select-A-Flow tubing set.
PRIMING
1. Set Select-A-Flow dial to Ø, off position.
2. Depress the PCA button until it latches into place (Figure A). Button will lock down.
3. Lay the PCA device on a
fl
at surface with the red key label side up (Figure B).
4. Open the clamp and remove the distal end cap to begin priming the pump. Do not discard cap.
5. Watch the PCA for air removal. Once all air is removed and medication is
fl
owing past the distal
“Y” site (approximately 4 minutes), set Select-A-Flow to the highest
fl
ow rate setting (14 or 7 ml/hr
depending on model).
6. Watch Select-A-Flow for air removal (approximately 2 minutes). When all air is removed from
entire set, replace distal end cap until ready for use.
7. Remove the red holding key from the PCA by pulling straight out (Figure C). The button will
return to its uppermost position. Allow 30 minutes for complete
fi
lling. The orange re
fi
ll indicator
will be in the up position (Figure E).
CAUTION:
Do not pull the red tab upwards as breakage could occur (Figure D). Do not use if red
tab breaks inside unit as maximum
fl
ow rate (basal + bolus) can occur.
8. Turn the Select-A-Flow dial back to Ø, off position until ready for use.
CAUTION:
Make sure the dial is in the Ø, off position, or the clamp is closed.
STARTING INFUSION
1. Patient must be educated on proper use of product by healthcare provider.
2. Do not use while showering, bathing or swimming.
3. Do not microwave or submerge in water.
4. Cleanse patient access site according to standard protocol.
5. Ensure catheter is patent (free from occlusions).
6. Connect Easypump tubing to the patient’s catheter. Ensure connection is secure.
7. Select the appropriate
fl
ow rate by turning the dial on the Select-A-Flow until the dial clicks into
place and the
fl
ow rate setting is aligned with the ml/hr mark on the face of the Select-A-Flow
controller.
CAUTION:
Ensure proper
fl
ow rate is dialed
WARNING:
To avoid tampering, remove the rate-changing key from the dial by pulling the key
straight out. Put the key in a safe place for later use, e.g., attached to a key ring.
Close the cover over the Select-A-Flow Variable Rate Controller. For increased tamper resistance,
the cover may be locked to the Select-A-Flow Variable Rate Controller using a standard tie wrap.
Note:
If desired, the cover may also be removed from the Select-A-Flow Variable Rate Controller by
fully opening the cover and then pulling straight up on the plastic feet at the bottom of the cover.
