Chapter 5: Disassembling and Expanding Leg Frames
This section describes how to disassemble and expand Leg Frames.
Before you begin, make sure you have removed all modules, cables, and chassis as described in previous sections of this guide.
Guidelines for Leg Frame Systems
If your system includes a Leg Frame, use the following guidelines to determine if, and how extensively, the Leg Frame must be dis-
assembled.
If you are moving (not expanding) the system, you may not need to disassemble the Leg Frame if you are moving it a short distance,
and it can fit through all doorways. Keep in mind that Leg Frames can be heavy.
Leg Frames
must
be partially or completely disassembled to move or expand it if any of the following apply.
• The system includes two or more individual Leg Frames attached with Leg Frame Join Module(s). The Leg Frames must be
detached from each other before lifting or moving.
• Larger Leg Frames might need to be fully disassembled (detach Beams from Legs) before they can be moved, depending on
the distance being moved, the weight of the frame, and the size of doorways or other obstacles.
• If you are expanding a Leg Frame with one or more Leg Frame Extensions, or adding a Leg Frame Join Module and additional
Leg Frame(s), the frame must be partially disassembled. If expanding a Leg Frame requires replacing existing Beams with
longer ones, the Leg Frame must be fully disassembled.
How to Proceed
Follow the instructions in the rest of this section to disassemble your Leg Frame as appropriate for your situation.
Components and systems are heavy! We recommend using four people, one to lift each corner. Never attempt to move a system that
is five or more chassis in width. Never move or lift a chassis of any size by the Side Covers, Bolster, or Rear Covers as they can
break. Move or lift while holding the metal chassis frame instead.
To reduce the weight of the system before moving it, remove all modules and cable sets.
