14. Using an appropriate seal removing tool, remove
the ring gear seal from the gear case.
CLEANING AND INSPECTING GEAR
CASE (w/o Reverse)
NOTE: Whenever a part is worn excessively,
cracked, or damaged in any way, replacement is
necessary.
1. Wash the gear case halves and unsealed bearings in
parts-cleaning solvent.
2. Inspect the gear case halves for trueness, scoring,
pitting, scuffing, or any imperfections in the cast-
ing.
3. Inspect all threaded areas for damaged or stripped
threads.
4. Inspect the bearing areas for cracks or excessive
bearing movement. If evidence of excessive bear-
ing movement is noted, replace the component.
5. Inspect the bearings for wear, scoring, scuffing,
damage, or discoloration. Rotate the bearings.
Bearings must rotate freely and must not bind or
feel rough. If any abnormal condition is noted,
replace the bearing.
6. Inspect the planetary and ring gears for wear,
cracks, or chipped teeth.
7. Apply a light film of Arctic Cat ACT Drive Fluid
to the unsealed bearings prior to assembling.
ASSEMBLING GEAR CASE
(w/o Reverse)
1. Using an appropriate seal installation tool,
install the oil seal into the output shaft opening
of the gear case; then install the inner retaining
ring into the groove of the gear case.

2. Using a suitable bearing press, install the bear-
ing onto the output shaft of the ring gear.

NOTE: When pressing the bearing onto the out-
put shaft of the ring gear, use an insert that is the
same diameter as the bearing dish of the ring gear.

3. Using a suitable press, install the ring gear assem-
bly to the gear case.
