Pump tubing maintenance
Removing the sample hose
In order to prevent any residual liquid remaining in the tubes from jetting towards
the machine operator during disassembly, the sample tube must be pulled away
from the machine operator.
Damaged or worn pump tubes adversely affect the performance of the instrument.
Therefore, the tubings must be checked at regular intervals (each time before
starting work) and replaced as necessary.
In order to replace the tubing, proceed as follows:
1. Flush the sample introduction system for approx. 10 minutes with a suitable
blank solution, e.g., distilled water for aqueous applications.
2. Switch off the plasma.
3. Loosen the retaining clamp from the peristaltic pump.
4. Fold the retaining clip vertically upwards and remove the clip from the shaft.
Subsequently, remove the connected capillary hoses and the hose from the
retaining clip.
5. Clamp a new hose into the retaining clip, place the clip vertically on the shaft
and close the retaining clip, applying slight pressure until the clip locks into
place. Proceed in the same way with all pump hoses.
6. Connect the capillary tubes with the new pump tubes.
While doing so, observe the correct inside diameter. The required inside
diameter and consequently the pumping capacity depends on the
nebulizer used. The following applies to the Cross-Flow nebulizer
included in the scope of supply as a standard item:
Sample introduction channel:
Inside diameter 0.89 mm; 0.035"
(Orange-orange stops).
Outlet channel:
Inside diameter 1.8 mm; 0.071"
(Blue-green stops).
Replacement of pump tubes is now complete.
