15. FOLLOW THESE STEPS WHEN BATTERY IS INSTALLED IN VEHICLE. A SPARK NEAR BAT-
TERY MAY CAUSE BATTERY EXPLOSION. TO REDUCE RISK OF A SPARK NEAR BATTERY:
a) Position AC and DC cords in a position that will reduce the risk of damage by hood, door or
moving engine part.
b) Stay clear of fan blades, belts, pulleys and other parts that can cause injury to persons.
The battery charger must be connected to the battery according to the instructions above.
IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION!
The US 4.3 Alfa Romeo Battery Charger cannot be used to restore a fully worn out battery.
If the US 4.3 Alfa Romeo Battery Charger does not switch to maintenance charge after three days
(green light illuminated), there is a fault. Possible causes:
• The battery is probably worn out and should be replaced.
• Some large antimony batteries may behave different and can allow the US 4.3 Alfa Romeo
Battery Charger to charge the battery for too long, which can lead to overcharging. See caution!
• If heavy power consumers like fitted alarms and navigation computers are connected to the
battery, the charging process takes longer and this can also overcharge the battery.
• A sulphated battery will only accept current with difficulty, and consequently the charging process
takes a particularly long time. A worn out battery cannot be fully charged. Therefore you should
always check whether the charger has been switched to maintenance charge before you leave
it turned on or unobserved for any length of time.
BATTERY TYPES
The following recommendations should only be considered as guidelines. In the event of uncertainty
always refer to the battery manufacturer’s recommendations.

on battery poles.
1. The power cord should be disconnected before connecting or disconnecting the battery lead.
2. Connect the output cable to the vehicle connector.
3. Connect the power cord to the power outlet.
4. Follow the display through the charging process. The battery is ready to start the engine when
READY is lit. The battery is fully charged when MAINTENANCE is lit.
5. Stop charging at any time by disconnecting the mains cable from the wall socket.
REVERSE POLARITY PROTECTION
If the battery cables are connected incorrectly, the reverse polarity protection will make sure that the
charger and the battery are not damaged. In this case, the red warning lamp will be lit.
