4.1.1 Wireless Networking Basics
The WLAN's 'radio' link is a shared medium. A wireless Access
Point like the AST570 , can be seen as a hub between WLAN
clients. As no physical connection exists between the AST570 and
these clients, you must name your AST570 ' WLAN network. This
is done by the Service Set ID (SSID). WLAN clients must be part of
this SSID environment in order to be able to communicate with
other clients of the (W)LAN - including the AST570 .
The IEEE802.11b standard for WLANs allows for several WLAN
networks using different radio channels to be colocated. Several
channels are available for use which are associated to a slightly
different frequency in the allowed range. The AST570 supports
operation on all allowed channels.
Only WLAN client adapters compliant to IEEE802.11b DSSS, will
be able to communicate with the AST570 , and hence, with other
members of the AST570 WLAN environment.
It is advisable that the WLAN client adapter is Wireless Ethernet
Compatibility Alliance (WECA) WiFi

