4.1.1 Splitting N1 files

Some of the Release 9.0 N1 files are too large to fit onto a single floppy disk. However, a
floppy disk may be the preferred way to transfer an N1 file onto a PC running the Craft
Interface Node Manager for software downloads to a node.

It is possible to split an N1 file using either Unix or DOS commands and then recombine
the file on a PC.

For example, to split a file on a Unix workstation, enter:

dd if=1117H020.n1 of=1117H020.n1a ibs=1k count=1024

dd if=1117H020.n1 of=1117H020.n1b ibs=1k skip=1024

To combine the split files on a PC workstation, enter:

copy /b 1117H020.n1a + 1117H020.n1b 1117H020.n1

If splitting files on a PC, the commands used depend on the version of DOS being used.
Recent versions of DOS include an MSBACKUP command that can be used to split files.

4.2 Restrictions

Restrictions 6 to 23 are not specific to this Release 9.0 load but also apply to previous
releases of the 3600 and 3600+ MainStreet software.

1)

Dual E3/Dual E3-2 pair

If a 3600 MainStreet multishelf system containing a Dual E3 and Dual E3-2 pair is
upgraded from Release 7.1 to Release 9.0 and is then downgraded back to Release 7.1,
the inactive Control card may not reset and therefore not revert to Release 7.1. If the
inactive card is reset manually, it will revert back to Release 7.1.

2)

Minimum revision levels

Minimum revision levels as per 01NUP0005 and 39NUP0003 must be adhered to.

3)

GSLC-12 and GSLC-16 line cards

The GSLC-12 and GSLC-16 line cards are compliant with ITU-T Recommendation
G.991.2 for G.SHDSL, with some exceptions in Annex A and B. These minor
exceptions are consistent with accepted industry limitations regarding loop
performance for a few specific test configurations and are typically not issues in actual
field implementations.

4)

5620 NM downloads

The 5620 NM cannot currently download more than approximately eight NTUs
simultaneously, depending on the speed of the path between the 5620 NM and the
3600/3600+ MainStreet node hosting the NTUs being downloaded.
