wireless networking products. Some of information in this glossary might be outdated,
please use with caution.
100Base-FX
The IEEE standard defines how to transmit Fast Ethernet 100Mbps data using multi-mode
or single fiber optic cable
100Base-TX
Also known as 802.3u. The IEEE standard defines how to transmit Fast Ethernet 100Mbps
using Cat.5 UTP/STP cable. The 100Base-TX standard is backward compatible with the
10Mbps 10-BaseT standard.
802.11b
International standard for wireless networking that operates in the 2.4 GHz frequency band
(2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz) and provides a throughput up to 11 Mbps.
802.11g
A standard provides a throughput up to 54 Mbps using OFDM technology. It also operates
in the 2.4 GHz frequency band as 802.11b. 802.11g devices are backward compatible
with 802.11b devices.
802.11n
A standard provides a throughput up to 150 Mbps using MIMO technology. It operates in
the 2.4 and/or 5 GHz frequency band. 802.11n devices are backward compatible with
802.11b/g devices even 802.11a devices.
