Agilent 86038B Photonic Dispersion and Loss Analyzer, Second Edition
For the Multiport Switch Options Only
7 Insert the 81591B or 81595B Optical Switch Module into
the 8164B Mainframe in Slot 1.
8 Using the black protected patchcord provided with the
switch, labeled "Switch Fiber", attach the common
Connector A of the switch to the Optical Receiver port of
the PDLA (or to Source Output port for switching at the
DUT input).
For the Enhanced PDL and Loss Accuracy Option Only
9 Insert the 2 81634B Power Sensor modules into the 8164B
Mainframe in Slots 2 and 3.
10 This step for connecting the power meters must be done
correctly to avoid damage to the special patchcords used
for this option.
• The first patchcord is labeled "Monitor 1 Connector" at
one end. This end should be attached to the analyzer at
the Monitor 1 Port. The other end of this fiber is labeled
"PM Slot2 Connector". This end should be attached to
the 81634B module in Slot 2. This end has a special
coating and should not make a physical connection to
the fiber. This end should also not be cleaned with
contact. Only air should be used if necessary for
normal cleaning.
• The second patchcord, labeled "Monitor 2 Connector" at
one end, should be similarly connected between the
Monitor 2 Port of the analyzer and the 81634B in Slot 3.
11 Turn on the PNA and TLS and allow the instruments to warm
up for 90 minutes.
• The 8164B needs to have the GPIB address 20. This will
usually be set correctly at the factory. But if more than
one 8164B are included, the GPIB addresses should be
configured at installation.
• If the display screen of the 8164B is disabled by the
86038B software, then manual control can be
returned by first using the 86038B menu item
System>Toggle mainframe local-lockout status, and
then pressing the button for Local on the right side
of the 8164B display.
• Then press the button Config under the 8164B display
and select GPIB address.
• The "master" 8164B, located directly under the analyzer
must have the address 20.
