How to Use the Treadmill (cont)
Land each step softly
Aim to land each foot softly, with minimal noise and impact. The louder your landing, the more strain you are
putting on your joints, muscles and the treadmill itself. Landing flat-footed can also cause muscle strain and cause
you to lose your balance. It is recommended to land on your mid-foot, feet underneath your hips – all of which
works together to reduce impact on joints.
Avoid gripping the support rails
The support rails are there to support you getting on and off the treadmill, or when you’ve over done it and need to
slow down. If you find yourself holding onto the handrails for extended periods of time, reduce the speed of your
treadmill or reduce the incline.
