Removing and installing the processor
Processor configuration guidelines
This server has two LGA 2011 processor sockets for supporting Intel® E5-
2600 series series processors. The supplied processor may be upgraded.
Observe the following guidelines when replacing or installing a processor.
•
The CPU socket must always be populated. If no processor is installed
in this socket, the system will fail to boot.
•
Before removing the processor, make sure to back up all important
system files.
•
Handle the processor and the heatsink fan assembly carefully.
Damage to either may prevent the system from functioning properly.
Replacing the processor
Warning!
The processor becomes very hot when the system is on.
Allow it to cool off first before handling.

Perform the pre-installation instructions described on page 26.

Remove the side panel described on page 28.

Lay the server on its side (components showing).

Remove the heatsink fan assembly described on page 45.
