DONNING THE SCBA WITH THE FIRE FIGHTER SELF-

RESCUE ACCESSORY

1.  Perform the respirator REGULAR  

OPERATIONAL INSPECTION as  

defined in the user instructions  

provided with the SCBA.

2.  Fully extend the waist belt by pulling the   

adjuster away from the body.

3.  Don the SCBA either coat style or by 

using the over-the-head method.

4. 

Verify that the waist belt is laying flat 

and is not twisted.

5.  Connect the belt buckle. Align the 

male and female connectors with white 

lettering facing outward and push to-

gether until engaged. An audible click 

will indicate that the buckle is secure. 

Pull ends to test for positive engage-

ment.

NOTE

THE BELT BUCKLE IS KEYED TO 

ENGAGE IN ONLY ONE DIRECTION. 

IF THE BELT BUCKLE DOES NOT 

PROPERLY ENGAGE, CHECK TO 

MAKE SURE THAT THE BELT STRAPS 

ARE NOT TWISTED AND THAT THE 

BUCKLE CONNECTORS ARE FREE 

FROM DIRT AND DEBRIS. IF BUCKLE 

IS STILL UNABLE TO ENGAGE, RE-

MOVE FIRE FIGHTER SELF-RESCUE 

ACCESSORY FROM SERVICE AND 

REPLACE AND TAG FOR REPAIR OR 

REPLACEMENT  BY AUTHORIZED 

PERSONNEL.

WARNING

THE WAIST BELT BUCKLE MUST BE 

CONNECTED, THE BELT MUST BE PULLED 

SNUG AND THE D-RING MUST BE CENTERED 

FOR THE FIRE FIGHTER SELF-RESCUE 

ACCESSORY TO OPERATE PROPERLY. USE 

OF THE SELF-RESCUE ACCESSORY IN AN 

EMERGENCY SITUATION WITHOUT THE BELT 

PROPERLY CONNECTED AND/OR ADJUSTED 

MAY RESULT IN FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM 

WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR 

DEATH. 

WARNING

DO NOT HANG ANY TOOLS ON OR ATTACH 

UNAPPROVED EQUIPMENT TO THE WAIST 

BELT. ANYTHING WHICH COULD INTERFERE 

WITH THE OPERATION OF THE SELF-RESCUE 

ACCESSORY IN AN EMERGENCY MAY RESULT 

IN FAILURE OF THE SYSTEM WHICH COULD 

LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.

6.  Pull adjuster straps forward to tighten the belt until snug. Insure that the D-ring 

remains centered on the body.

7.  Do not hang any tools or unapproved equipment on the Self-Rescue Accessory.
After donning the SCBA with Self-Rescue Accessory, perform a personal check 

of the equipment and address any donning problems. OSHA standard 29 CFR 

1910.134 requires teams of at least two people when entering into and operat-

ing in an IDLH atmosphere. If necessary, your partner may be used to assist in 

verifying that the SCBA with Self-Rescue Accessory is donned properly.
