Connections and LEDs
This chapter covers the MS-7206 hardware connections and LEDs. All connections and LEDs
are on the front panel.
8.1 Module Connections
The following describes how to connect the front panels of the management modules and
interface modules.

PORT DESCRIPTION
MM-7201 (Management Module)
MGMT Connect to a computer using an RJ-45 Ethernet cable for local configuration (see Section
8.2.1 on page 60 for details).
CONSOLE Only connect this port if you want to configure the MS-7206 using the command line
interface (CLI) via the console port (see Section 8.2.2 on page 60 for details).
ALARM Connect this DB-15 connector to alarm input and alarm output terminals on other pieces
of equipment (see Section 2.4.3 on page 31 for details).
MI-7248 (Interface Module)
1~48 Use the following copper Ethernet cables to connect these electrical Ethernet interfaces
to computers, Ethernet switches or routers. See Section 8.2.3 on page 60 for more details
on these ports.
a). 100Base-Tx 2-pair UTP Cat. 5e, up to 100m
b). 1000Base-T 4-pair UTP Cat. 5e, up to 100m
Connector: RJ-45
For better performance and lower radiation noise, use shielded Ethernet cables.
MI-7248TF (Fiber Interface Module)
1~24 Use mini-GBIC transceivers in these slots for fiber-optic connections to backbone
Ethernet switches (see Section 8.2.4 on page 61 for details).
25~48 Use the following copper Ethernet cables to connect these electrical Ethernet interfaces
to computers, Ethernet switches or routers. See Section 8.2.3 on page 60 for more details
on these ports.

b). 1000Base-T 4-pair UTP Cat. 5e, up to 100m
