Checking the tyre pressure
There are essentially three different types of bike tyre valve (see figure below):
Car valve
Schrader valve
American valve
Presta valve
Sclaverand valve
French valve
Dunlop valve
Wood’s valve
Bike valve
The permissible tyre inflation pressure is indicated on the side of the tyre. A pressure
range is given. Test which tyre inflation pressure is best for you. We recommend a bicycle
stand pump with pressure gauge for checking and correcting the tyre inflation pressure.
Note for Presta valve:
-
Loosen the union nut by one to two turns.
-
Press the valve end briefly in the direction of the wheel rim. If there is air in the tyre, it will
escape audibly.
-
Screw the union nut tight again after inflating.
Proceed as follows to check the tyre pressure:
-
Unscrew the valve cap from the bike valve.
-
If necessary, follow the specific instructions for the Presta valve.
-
Attach the connection of the stand pump intended for the valve type to the bike valve.
The pressure gauge shows the current tyre inflation pressure.
-
Correct an incorrect tyre inflation pressure.
-
Finally remove the connection of the stand pump from the bike valve.
-
Screw the valve cap onto the bike valve.
