MAINTENTANCE
MAINTENANCE MUST ONLY BE DONE WHEN THE HEATER IS COLD AND THE POWER
IS OFF AND UNPLUGGED.
Please be aware that any metal parts in the firebox can remain hot, even after the fire is
out and after the shut down cycle is complete. Always use caution when handling any
heater parts.
ASH REMOVAL
While the amount of ash generated by this unit is not excessive compared to wood heaters,
keeping the unit clean and free of ash is essential for peak performance. Excessive ash build up
can hamper the air flow and reduces the heater’s efficiency, and can cause smoke.
The following components require regular maintenance to keep ash and dust levels at a
minimum:
1. Burn Pot Liner: Using a long handled metal scraper or long handled flat tipped
screwdriver, remove material that has accumulated or is clogging the burn pot liner holes.
Dispose of the ashes from the burn pot liner and from inside the burn pot to ensure
proper air flow through the liner.
2. Heat Exchange Tube: Close the door. The heat exchange tube cleaner rod is to be
pulled back and forth a few times in order to clean away any fly ash that may have
collected on the heat exchanger tubes
3. Ash Drawer: Shut the unit down and allow it to cool down completely and then remove
the ashes from the ash drawer with a metal scoop.
IMPORTANT: If you see smoke coming out of your unit into the room and the power has not
failed, DO NOT OPEN THE HOPPER OR DOOR TO YOUR UNIT. Remain calm. Immediately
press the OFF button, open the nearest outside door and windows and wait for all signs of
smoke to clear. The smoke should dissipate quickly once the door and windows are opened.
DISPOSAL OF ASHES
When disposing of the ashes, place them in a metal or other non-combustible container with a
tight fitting lid. Move them outdoors immediately to an area clear of combustible materials. Do
not place them into plastic receptacles.
CLINKERS
Clinkers can restrict the air flow through the burn pot and affect the performance of the heater. If
they become blocked, remove the liner when the unit is cold and clean/scrape the clinkers out.
Clean the holes with a small pointed object if required.
DOOR
Clean the door glass and door frame with a wet soft cloth and cleanser regularly. Surface
scratches are acceptable and normal, but if the glass becomes cracked in any area, it will need
to be replaced.
Ensure all gaskets on the door are checked and replaced when necessary.
