START-UP
The DirectFRAP imaging system is a class 3B laser system and labeled accordingly (maximum
total output power 500 mW). If you use laser instruments, adhere to the provisions concerning
the health protection and industrial safety. Users should also ensure that they observe all
relevant legal requirements.
The laser protection officer should be informed before the DirectFRAP imaging system is
operated for the first time.
The DirectFRAP imaging system has to be installed or retrofitted and adjusted in any case by the
Carl Zeiss Microscopy GmbH Service or persons authorized by the manufacturer. If used as
intended (see Section 2.1 on page 21), the DirectFRAP imaging system can be started up and
used by the customer without additional precautions.
Before installing and starting up the system it is imperative to read carefully the
on page 5.

Space Requirements
The following system installation requirements have to be taken into consideration:

Stable laboratory bench with the microscope placed on a vibration-isolated base plate or a
vibration-isolating, air-cushioned microscope stage (dimensions 180 x 90 cm),

Minimum space between system and wall 50 cm.
