13 ESD
CAUTIONS
Electronic components are electrostatic sensitive devices.
Electronics components for Material Handling are tested again ESD according
EN12895. So Zapi controllers raise an intrinsic robustness against ESD. As a
consequence no special tool is required throughout the controller’s lifetime
(transport, assembly, replacement) for ESD rejection but the following cautions and
recommendations:
-
Zapi E-steering motor controller must always be handled in the conditions
it is delivered by Zapi. So, throughout the lifetime of the controller
(including transport, assembling and disassembling phases) it is forbidden
to remove the cover of the assembly.
- During the controller lifetime (including transport, assembling and
disassembling), take care as much as possible that the fingers of the operator
never get in touch with the pins of the connectors in the system (i.e. 23-poles
Ampseal connector).
- According to previous points, Zapi electronics components NEVER should be
handled without their own cover. In case, whatever is the reason, it is necessary
to handle a Zapi electronics component without its own protection (e.g. E-
steering motor controller without its cover) the operator is obliged to apply all the
ESD protections adopted during the production process in Zapi (like wrist strap,
equipotential area, ESD tools).
Operations to assemble and disassemble the E-steering motor controller must be
carried out according the general ESD recommendations in topic 12. Together with
that, the following additional countermeasures are required.
1. Switch off the key.
2. Unplug the battery throughout the assembling/disassembling procedure.
3. Discharge the DC-link capacitors by temporary connecting a 100
Ω
5 W
resistance (as an alternative, a lamp can be used) bB (CNA#3,4,5) and
-B (CNA#6,7,8) of the cable in the E-steering motor controller connector (if the
DC link of the E-steering motor controller is common with the Zapi pump
controller, connect the resistance bB and -B power posts of the pump
controller).
4. Wait 1 minute.
5. Now the operator can proceed for the assembling/disassembling operation.
6.
VERY IMPORTANT: PLEASE KEEP THE BATTERY UNPLUGGED UNTIL
YOU HAVE PLUGGED THE CONNECTOR ONTO THE E-STEERING MOTOR
CONTROLLER.
