Final Chain Adjustments and Rotate Conveyor Chain

adjust chain tension
Check the chain tension by applying a
20 lb [9 kg] force and then observing the chain
sag (example a). When the 20 lb [9 kg] force
is applied, a correctly tensioned chain will sag
1/2” [13 mm] between return idlers. Tighten the
chain until there is correct tension.
NOTE: Conveyors shown in this manual may look
different than your conveyor.

adjust the chain
Make the fi nal chain adjustment as shown. Use
the tail or head take-up (depending on where
the take-up is) (example b). Make only 1 or 2
turns per side to prevent binding.

rotate conveyor chain some
Rotate the chain on the sprocket by hand at least
(1) complete revolution and check to see the
chain isn’t catching on the fl anges or rubbing on
the sides due to an off-center sprocket.
