OPERATION AND IMPORTANT RIDING POINTS
Read the Owner's Manual carefully to
become familiar with all controls. If
there is a control or function you do not
understand, ask your Yamaha dealer.

Starting the engine
Before starting out, make sure that
the sidestand is up to prevent it
from touching the ground.
Turn the key to “ON”.
Shift the transmission into the
neutral position.

When the transmission is in the neutral
position, the neutral indicator light
should be on, otherwise have a
Yamaha dealer check the electrical
circuit.
Start the engine by pushing the
start switch or by kicking the
kickstarter lever down.

If the engine fails to start in cold weather,
turn on the choke lever during starting
and return it back to the original position
when the engine is running. (See page
3-6).
If the engine fails to start by pushing the
start switch, release the switch, wait a
few seconds, and then try again. Each
starting attempt should be as short as
possible to preserve the battery. Do not
crank the engine more than 10 seconds
on any one attempt. If the engine does
not start with the starter motor, try using
the kickstarter.
NOTICE
For maximum engine life, always warm
up the engine before starting off.
Never accelerate hard when the engine
is cold!
