I/O and Cabling Considerations
3.3.2
Extension Cables
Two basic types of extension cables of various lengths are available as shown in Figure 3-11.
Both types have 50-pin Telco (male) connectors at one end and either a 50-pin Telco (female)
connector, or a 50-pin bottom-entry connector (male or female) at the other end. (Refer to
paragraph 3.3.10 for a DECconnect-style extension cable.)

The available lengths for each type are:
Telco Male to Telco Female
Telco Male to Bottom-Entry Female/Male
0.91 m (3')
3.05 m (10') to bottom-entry female
3.05 m (10')
7.62 m (25') to bottom-entry female
7.62 m (25')
7.62 m (25') to bottom-entry male
15.24 m (50')
Either the Telco male to Telco female or the Telco male to bottom-entry male can connect
directly to the I/O module. These extensions cables provide a straight through connection so
combinations of various male-to-female cable lengths can be connected together to give you the
length you require.
These extension cables can be used to or from the I/O module to the following cabling options:
• Octopus Cables
• Distribution Panel
• Modular Splitter
• Punch-Down Block
• Extend existing cable
