The Liver Assist can be battery operated for a limited time (20 minutes) to allow
transportation within the hospital from room to room during the perfusion procedure. During
transport perfusion will continue but temperature control shall not be available. When the
mains is disconnected for transport, an alarm will warn the user every minute as a reminder
that the device is running on batteries. Then at least 20 minutes remain to connect to the
mains or switch to cold storage. In case the transportation takes too long, an alarm will notify
when the battery is low, see chapter 6.2.
To transport the Liver Assist:
•
Make sure the reservoir containing the organ is covered to ensure sterility
•
Disconnect the oxygen line from the oxygen supply
•
Disconnect the mains (an alarm will notify that the mains is disconnected)
•
Disconnect the equipotential cable
•
Release the brakes on the wheels of the trolley
•
Carefully move the device to another location, use the push bar (item 32, chapter
1.4) to push the device to another location
•
Engage the brakes on the wheels of the trolley
•
Connect the equipotential cable to the potential equalization connector
•
Connect the power cable to a grounded mains outlet, keep connected to charge
the battery
•
Connect the oxygen line to the oxygen supply
•
Switch off the HA and PV pump unit by pressing the pump buttons.
•
Switch off the whole system by pressing the power buttons.
•
Turn off the oxygen supply.
•
Remove the liver from the reservoir.
•
Disconnect the sensors from the disposable set. Gently pull the connectors out of
their sockets in a straight motion to avoid damage.
•
Remove the used disposable set.
•
Discard the used disposable as medical grade waste, following local regulations
•
Connect the water tubing using the supplied water tubing coupler (27) to prevent
against unwanted water leakage.
DO NOT REUSE PERFUSION CIRCUITS
The tubing, tubing-sets, pump head, oxygenator and reservoir are intended for single-use only.
After use, they should be disposed of in accordance with local guidelines for biomedical waste
material.
The temperature sensors, flow sensor and pressure sensor cable are reusable, make
sure to separate them from medical waste disposal after use!
