8. Bearing Shell and Bearing Cover − Installation
The bearing cover and bearing shell have the marks DRIVING END and must be
installed correctly in the bearing girder in their initial positions.
Before installation, make sure that the items that follow are clean and in good condition:
D All tools
D
The crankshaft pin
D The girder bore for the bearing shell
D Bearing shells.
8.1 Bottom Bearing Shell −
Installation
1) On the exhaust side, attach the Allen
screw (1, Fig. 16 ) to the bearing girder
2) Apply a very thin layer of Molykote
paste G to the rear face of the bottom
bearing shell.
3) Make sure that the crankshaft journal
and the running surface of the bearing
shell (2) are clean and fully lubricated
with clean engine oil.
4) Attach the device (94118) to the front
face of the bearing shell (2) with the
Allen screws.
5) Use the tool (94116) to put the bearing
shell (2) in position on the crankshaft.
Make sure that the device (94118) is on
the fuel side.
6) Put the wire ropes of the device (94118)
below the crankshaft journal. Attach the
wire ropes to the other side with the plate
(97119).
7) Torque the M10x30 screws of the plate
(94119) to 40 Nm.
8) Attach the manual ratchet (H2) to the
device (94118).
9) Hold the bearing shell (2) in position
while you attach the manual ratchet (H2)
to the device (94118).
10) Remove the tool (94116).
11) Operate the manual ratchet (H2) to turn
the bearing shell (2). Make sure that the
bearing shell touches the Allen
screw (1).
12) Install the second Allen screw (2) to the
other side of the bearing girder.
13) Release the pressure from the HP oil
pump (94931) to fully lower the
crankshaft.
