Note: When you do step 5). Make sure that
the mark DRIVING END on the
intermediate wheel (5, Fig. 2 ) faces
the rear of the engine.
5) Operate the two manual ratchets
(94016F) to put the intermediate
wheel (5) in the correct position on the
drive column.
6) Apply clean oil to the threads of the 12
bolts (8).
7) Apply Molykote paste G − n to the surface
that touches on the cover (9) at the
driving end.
8) Put the two covers (9) in position.
9) Attach the two bearings (1) to the
intermediate wheel (5).
10) Attach the 12 bolts (8) to the covers (9)
to hold the two bearings (1) in position.
11) Attach the eight adjusting devices
(94410, Fig. 3 ) through the covers as
shown. Make sure that the holes for the
taper pins are aligned.
12) Use carefully a copper rod to install the
taper pins.
13) Remove the eight adjusting
devices (94110).
14) Use a wrench to tighten lightly and
equally the 12 bolts (8, Fig. 2 ).
15) Torque symmetrically the 12 bolts (8) to
1050 Nm (tightening angle of 65
°
).
16) Lock the bolts with lockwire as shown in
Fig. 4 ).
17) Do a check of the backlash, refer to
0330 − 1, Intermediate Wheel .
18) Apply Loctite Type A to the threads of
the screw plugs (7, Fig. 2 ).
19) Install the screw plugs (7) until they
touch the taper pins (6).
Note: If it becomes necessary to adjust
the bearings again, use the two
drilled holes ( Fig. 4 ) in the covers.
