Maintenance After Extended Use
Storing the Motor Unit
Before storing the unit for longer periods of time, empty the oil and the fuel
tank. Store fuel and oil in approved containers.
Pull the starter handle (22) in order to run fuel out of the carburettor. Set
the start/stop switch (17) to the forward position.
Remove the spark plug and pour approx. 10 mm fresh and clean two-
stroke oil into the cylinder. Place a clean cloth over the spark plug hole
and pull the starter handle (22) several times in order to evenly distribute
the oil.
Determine the position of the piston through the spark plug hole. Slowly
pull the starter handle until the piston is lifted up. Leave the piston in this
position.
Reattach the spark plug but do not connect the spark plug cable.
Store the garden toll indoors in a dry and dust-free place. Protect the
machine from dirt and extreme temperatures.
Maintaining the Guide Bar of the Pole Saw
The groove in the guide bar should always be straight and square. Periodically
check the groove for wear.
Lubricating and Maintaining the Pole Saw
The angle drive of the pole saw must be lubricated regularly. It is advisable to
lubricate the angle drive every 15 to 20 hours of operation. Use Lithium
machine grease. Suitable grease and grease guns can be purchased from
Westfalia. Wipe the grease fitting clean and use the grease gun to add one or
two shots of grease. Do not use excessive force to insert the grease.
Remove the guide bar and clean the oil filler hole with a brush or blow it out
with compressed air. If the oil tank is contaminated, clean out rough dirt.
ATTENTION! For safe and easy operation the cutting teeth of the saw chain
must be kept sharp.
The saw teeth must be sharpened when the saw dust takes on a powder-like
consistency, excessive force is needed to force the saw into the cut, the chain
does not cut straight or if the fuel consumption becomes excessive.
Dull chains should be sharpened by a skilled expert. Saw chain sharpening
devices and accessories can be purchased from Westfalia.
