Functions
This section describes the main functions of the
SMP
, in addition to instantaneous
measurement of the electromagnetic field.
5.6.1
Memorisation of measurements
One of the main functions of the
SMP
is storage of measurements in memory for later
study or processing. The memory of the
SMP
allows storage of up to 62,400 points of
memory without positioning information, and up to 27,300 points when storing the GPS
data. The memory is organised into registers of measurements corresponding to the
different memorisations. The maximum number of registers is 100.
Before memorisation is started, the parameters for the memorisation interval, type of
average and average interval must be configured via the configuration menu. The field and
average field data will be stored in the unit selected for the measurement.
To start memorisation, press the
Log/RD
button on the main screen. When memorisation
is started, the device automatically creates a new measurement register. The
Create new
register
field appears indicating the
ID
number of the register and the user is prompted to
enter a
Name
for the register. The name is entered using the
arrows and it is
validated by pressing
Enter
. When
Enter
is pressed again in response to the prompt
Ready to measure?
memorisation of the new register starts.
Entry of a name for each register created is not strictly necessary, since each register has a
unique ID number. However, naming registers is advisable since it facilitates identification
of the measurements stored in each register.
To stop memorisation, press the
Log/RD
key again. If the memorisation reaches the
maximum number of points of memory , the memorisation will be stopped automatically.
To store positional information along with the field data, the GPS receiver must be enabled
when memorisation is commenced. If the position given by the GPS is invalid, the
positional data will be saved with a value of ‘0’
The GPS cannot be enabled or disabled during the measurement storage process. The GPS
enable/disable option is blocked on the configuration menu during storage.
While making a memorisation some functions of the
SMP
are disabled: It is not possible
to change the device configuration through the configuration screen, nor to access the
memorised data screen.
5.6.2
Calculation of averages
The
SMP
can calculate 2 types of average of the value of the electromagnetic field:
1.
Arithmetic average
: The arithmetic average of the values of the field measured
during the measurement interval defined via the configuration menu:
