5) Plug the ESC lead into the proper slot in the

receiver.  Slide the ESC on top of the battery, up un-
der the front of the fuselage pod.

When you turn on the ESC and throttle up, the

propeller should rotate counter-clockwise.  If it does
not, switch the polarity of the plugs where the motor
wires plug into the ESC (i.e., plug red into black and
black into red).  This will reverse the direction of the
motor. Do not under any circumstances change the
polarity of the power input leads.

6) You can either mount the ESC on-off switch

and arming switch to the side of the fuselage pod, or
just lay them in the bottom of the fuselage pod like
we did.

If you mount the on-off switch and the arming

switch to the side of the fuselage pod, make sure you
mount them right behind the forward bulkhead.  This
will ensure they are not in the way when you hand
launch the airplane.

BALANCING THE EGRET

BALANCING

1) It is critical that your airplane be balanced

correctly.  Improper balance will cause your airplane
to lose control and crash.

The center of gravity is located 2" back

from the leading edge of the wing, at

the sides of the center pod.

This location is recommended for initial test flying
and training.  The C.G. can be moved aft up to 1/4",
but it is not recommended that the C.G. be located
any farther back than 2-1/4" behind the leading edge
of the wing.

The Egret should be balanced with the flight bat-

tery securely mounted in the fuselage pod.

2) Tear off two short pieces of masking tape and

place them on the bottom of the wing, 2" back from
the leading edge, at the sides of the center pod.

3) Place your fingers on the masking tape and

carefully lift the airplane.  If the nose of the air-
plane falls, the airplane is nose heavy.  To correct
this, move the receiver and/or flight battery back
just far enough to bring the airplane into balance.
If the tail of the airplane falls, the airplane is tail
heavy.  To correct this, move the flight battery and/or
receiver forward only enough to bring the airplane
into balance.  When balanced correctly, the airplane
should sit level or slightly nose down when you lift
it up with your fingers.

Once you have flown and become familiar with

the flight characteristics of the Egret, the balance point
(C.G.) can be moved aft up to 1/4" to change the flight
performance.  Moving the balance point back will
cause the airplane to be more responsive, but less
stable.  Do not fly the Egret beyond the recom-
mended balance range or an uncontrollable crash
could result!

1) We recommend setting up the Egret using the

control throws we recommended in the pushrod in-
stallation steps.  Those control throws are suggested
for initial test flying.  If you haven't set up the con-
trol throws yet, we have listed them here again.  Please
refer back to those pages for the proper technique for
adjusting the control throws.  These settings will al-
low the airplane to fly smoother and make it easier to
control.

After you have become familiar with the way

the Egret flies, if you find the control throw settings
that we recommend are too low for you, feel free to
increase them in small increments to suit your fly-
ing style.

1) Check the operation of the throttle.

A) Plug in your flight battery and turn on

the radio system.
