3) When satisfied with the alignment, use a

drill with a 5/64” drill bit and the control horn as a
guide, and drill the two mounting holes through the
rudder.

4) Set the control horn back into place and re-

align it.  Push two 2mm x 12mm machine screws
into the base of the control horn and through the
rudder.  See photo # 42 below.

5) Place the nylon backplate onto the machine

screws, aligning the two holes in the backplate with
the two screws.  Using a # 0 phillips screwdriver,
evenly tighten both machine screws to draw the back-
plate into place.  Be careful not to overtighten the
screws.  You don't want to crush the wood.

INSTALLING THE PUSHROD

6) Using a ruler and a modeling knife, measure

and cut the 5mm x 380mm nylon pushrod housing to
a length of 14-3/8" long.

7) With the fuselage upside down, slide the

pushrod housing into the precut slot in the back of
the tail boom, up through the tail boom and out the
precut slot in the front of the tail boom.

Use the tip of a modeling knife or a # 0 phillips

screwdriver to guide the pushrod housing out of the
slot at the front of the tail boom.

8) Adjust the pushrod housing so that 3/4" of

the housing hangs behind the leading edge of the hori-
zontal stabilizer.

9) Using a ruler and a modeling knife, measure

and cut the 4mm x 420mm nylon pushrod tube to a
length of 15-7/8" long.

10) Thread one 2mm x 22mm thread rod into

each end of the pushrod tube.  Thread the rods in
until 11/16" of each threaded rod extends past the
ends of the tube.

11) Locate a plastic "4-point" servo horn that

came with your servo.  Each of the arms should have
at least three holes in it. Using a pair of wire cutters,
remove one of the plastic arms.

12) Using a drill with a 5/64” drill bit, enlarge

the third hole out from the center of the arm to the
left of the one you cut off.

13) Thread one clevis onto one of the threaded

rods and snap the clevis into the enlarged hole in the
servo arm.  See photo # 43 below.

14) Per your radio system guide and ESC instruc-

tions, plug the flight battery into the ESC, then plug
the ESC and the rudder servo lead into their proper
slots in the receiver.  Turn on the radio system.

15) Slide the rudder pushrod assembly into the

nylon pushrod housing, from the front, until the servo
horn lines up with the servo output shaft.  Attach the
servo horn to the output shaft, making sure that the
servo horn is centered and points toward the wing.
See photo # 44 below.

16) Using a # 1 phillips screwdriver, install and

tighten the servo arm retaining screw, provided with
your servo, to secure the servo horn in place.

17) Use a couple of pieces of masking tape,

taped between the vertical stabilizer and the rudder,
to hold the rudder centered.
