breaker may only be a symptom of an underlying fault.
Whatever the fault, certain basic principles apply. These
are as follows:
1.
Verify the fault.
Ensure symptoms are identified before starting work.
This is particularly important when investigating a
fault someone else has described.
2.
Do not overlook the obvious.
For example, if an electrical fault is indicated, check
the diagnostic indicators before altering the wiring.
3.
Cure the disease, not the symptom.
4.
Do not take anything for granted.
Be aware that new components may be defective; do
not leave components out of a diagnosis sequence
just because they are new or recently fitted. When a
fault is diagnosed, the key evidence is often on hand
from the start.
