A Short
Overview
The Waldorf Quantum consists of numerous sound-
shaping components.
Note that the Quantum consists of two different types of
components for sound generation and sound shaping:
•
Sound synthesis: Oscillator models, Filters, Digital
Former, Amplifier, Effects. These modules represent
the audio signal flow. Sound generation actually occurs
within the oscillators. They can produce different
shapes based on the selected model – e.g. classic wave-
forms such as square, sawtooth, triangle, and sine, or
wavetables and samples. The analog filter shapes the
sound by amplifying (boosting) or attenuating (dam-
pening) certain frequencies. Digital Former delivers di-
gital filters and effects for sound processing. The Am-
plifier and the Effects are located at the end of the si-
gnal chain. They determine the overall volume of the
signal and add up to five effects like chorus, flanger,
delay, and reverb, etc.

Modulators: LFOs, Envelopes, Komplex Modulator,
Modulation Matrix. These modules are called Modula-
tors. The Modulators are designed to manipulate or
modulate the sound generating components to add dy-
namics to sounds. The Low-frequency Oscillators
(LFOs) are designed for periodic or recurring modula-
tions while Envelopes are normally used for modula-
tions that only occur once on each note. These genera-
tors are assigned to parameters through the Modula-
tion Matrix and influence these parameters to alter a
sound.
