E Using the LCR – Measuring in connection with a computer
A Windows software for Windows ’98 and above, including the respective
interface lead for the connection/ communication with a computer, is
enclosed. However, basic knowledge in handling a PC is required.
a) Connection
Connect the RS–232 interface with the LCR – measuring instrument (at the
top) and with a series interface (COM 1) of the computer that must be
switched off. The interface in the LCR measuring instrument is a series bi-
directional (in both directions) infrared–interface. The transmission rate is
1200 Baud.
b) Software
Insert the mini CD–ROM into the corresponding drive of your PC .
Click to Setup in the EXPLORER and follow the screen instructions.
c) Systems preconditions
At least Pentium I with at least 32 MB RAM (user memory), at least 2 MB
graphic card, at least 4-fold CD-ROM drive and Windows ‘98 or above.
d) Interface parameter
Transmission rate: 1200 Baud
Data bits: 7
Stop bits: 1
Parity: equal
Disposal
If the LCR measuring instrument 4080 does not function any more, although
the power supply is intact (9 V compound battery or via an external 12 V DC
adapter) or if it cannot be repaired any more, it must be disposed of accord-
ing to the valid legal requirements.
Trouble-Shooting
With the LCR measuring instrument 4080 you have acquired a state-of-the art
product, nevertheless there may be problems or troubles. Therefore, we
would like to explain to you how you can clear some possible troubles easily:
38
D2 "FREQ" button: setting of the test or measuring frequency.
With this button, you can set the measuring frequency to 120 Hz or 1 kHz.
After the setting, the respective symbol appears in the top right corner of the
display behind the measuring value.
The second function of this button is the number "0".
D3 "PAL SER" button: parallel – or series impedance
When you press the button "PAL SER" you connect the LCR measuring
instrument in parallel "PAR" or in series "SER" to the measured object. Usual-
ly, the "PAR” mode is used for high impedances, and the "SER” mode for low
impedances.
The second function of this button is the enter function (confirm input).
D4 "RANGE" button: manual range selection
When you press this button, you switch off the automatic range selection. The
symbol "AUTO" (top left) will disappear.
Every time you press the "RANGE" button, the measuring range will now be
increased by the power of ten – visible in the decimal point moving to the right
and in the measuring unit changing. To return to the automatic range selec-
tion, please press the "RANGE" button for another 2 seconds. The symbol
"AUTO" will reappear in the display. The second function of this button is the
number "1".
D5 "L/C/R" button: selection of the measuring function
Select the desired measuring function with this button:
L for measuring inductors up to 20000 H with 120 Hz or 2000 H with 1 kHz
C for measuring capacitors up to 20 mF with 120 Hz or 2000 µF with 1 kHz
R for measuring resistors up to 10 M
Ω
Every time you press the button, the measuring function will be changed – vis-
ible in the display symbols "L", "C" and "R" at the left side of the display. The
measuring function set last will be maintained even if the instrument is
switched off.
The second function of this button is the number "2".
