10. Performing a test
a) Connecting the cable
•
Connect the network cable to be tested to the network cable connection (6) with the RJ45
socket.
• Coax cables to be tested with BNC connectors can be connected to the BNC coaxial cable
connection (5) with the BNC cable.
• If you wish to test cables without an appropriate connector (BNC), use the appropriate BNC
adapter.
- The BNC adapter with crocodile clips should be used for open cable ends by clamping
the crocodile clips to it.
- The measuring tips with BNC connector are used for connections with coaxial cables e.g.
without BNC connectors.
Always connect only one cable during testing to avoid errors.
The cable length of an adapter cable must be deducted when calculating a measured
length.
b) Selecting the cable type for the test
The standard test mode is the data cable test. Its measurement interface appears after switching
on the measuring device. You must select the test mode according to the cable to be tested -
network cable or coaxial cable. You can select the test mode for the respective cable type after
switching on in two different ways. You can select the cable type with the toggle button (coax/
network) cable (2) directly.
• Press the toggle button (coax/network) cable (2) to select between network cable test and
coaxial cable test.
Alternatively, activate the mode directly through the graphical user interface. Proceed as follows:
• Press and hold the
EXIT button
(9) for approx. 3 seconds to
switch on the cable tester.
•
Briefly press the
EXIT
button (9) to switch to the function menu.
The function menu appears.
• Press the
TEST OK
button (3) to select and confirm ‘Cable Test’.
The cable selection appears.
